Fresh Starts Aren’t Just for January
Why it's always the perfect time for a reset
We hear so much about fresh new starts, ‘new me-s’ and resolutions at the end of December and into January. The New Year brings a clean slate feeling, but it can also bring a lot of pressure - especially if things didn’t go the way you wanted.
1st January being New Year is a concept we have created in our culture. Around the world New Year happens on many different days - at least 26 throughout the year. With this in mind, it can be helpful to realise there’s not just one day we can start over.

In fact, any day of the year is the right time for a reset. There’s no need to feel like you’ve missed out or that you’ve got to wait until a certain time. Today is the perfect day.
What do I mean by a reset?
So many people I talk to feel like they’re drifting through life. One minute it’s New Year, the next it’s Christmas again. They have dreams they’d like to chase and progress they’d like to make, but get lost under the responsibilities of home, work and family, buried under the labels given to us by society. They feel trapped in doing what they’re doing because it’s expected of them, yet they don’t love it anymore - or feel there’s something missing.
This is when it’s time to reset. It might mean a big change in behaviour, a new job, moving house, selling up and buying a small holding. Or it could be shifting our mindset and slowly changing things we do.
It requires time to step off the merry-go-round and let it all carry on around us - even for just a few minutes a day.
For me, my biggest reset came during the pandemic. I’d been put on furlough for weeks and it was the first time in 12 years I’d really stopped (by this time I’d developed the bad habit of checking emails in the morning before work, evening before I went to sleep, at the weekends - and even on holiday).
I was in a fortunate position in that I had a roof over my head, so even when redundancy came knocking I didn’t have to panic. Instead I was given the amazing opportunity to actually pause, to take some time out and reassess. Did I want to go back to doing the kind of job I’d held for 12years? Or had I had enough? If so, what was it that I wanted now? What did I need?
That’s how I ended up training as a professional coach and setting up my own business - something even a year before I would never have thought about. The job I have created for myself not only gives me the flexibility I need at home, but the joy and job satisfaction that’s hard to get anywhere else. It’s not perfect, I wear many more hats than I used to and there’s a different kind of pressure when it’s your own business, but there’s also a different kind of accomplishment too.
So what do you want? What do you need?
Whether you set yourself goals or resolutions at the start of the year or not, you might still be getting that nagging feeling that there’s something more for you, that something needs to change - even if you don’t know what that is right now.
Going through my own reset, I realised how important it was and wanted to help others do the same. However, I also knew that not everyone has the luxury of pausing in the way I did.
That’s why along with my friend, business partner and fellow coach who also went through her own reset during Covid, I developed The Reset You Week.
It’s designed to help you start thinking about what you want and need at this stage of your life, but in bite-sized chunks. It runs over 5 days and the videos and workbooks go up early so you can do it at your own time - no need to have the pressure of being somewhere at a certain time. Obviously the more time and effort you can put into it, the better results you’ll get, but it’s up to you. We also keep things available for the week after so there’s plenty of time to catch up if life does get in your way.
We will be running this week again, over in our Facebook group 24th-28th February, with support running until Friday 7th March - and we’ll open on Saturday 22nd February. You’ll get:
short, daily videos to guide you
workbooks to help you focus on what you really want
By the end of the week you’ll:
have rediscovered what truly matters to you
feel more connected to your strengths
have a clearer vision for your future
If you’re ready to feel more like you and give yourself the time you deserve, we hope you’ll join us for this FREE event.
